How Sad a Passage

COUNTESS "This young gentlewoman had a father,--O, that 'had'! how sad a passage 'tis!--whose skill was almost as great as his honesty; had it stretched so far, would have made nature immortal, and death should have play for lack of work." -Act I scene i, All's Well that Ends Well.

598 Days

"You have chosen to be part of an adventurous expedition to Antarctica. Your voyage combines a sailed crossing of the infamous Drake Passage with lectures on sailing and wildlife and hikes on the Antarctic peninsula with our experienced guides. The Cape To Cape voyage in addition brings you the wildlife of South Georgia and some extensive ocean sailing to enjoy the life as a sailor. We look forward to sharing this adventure with you."

There you have it.  Patience, says Shackleton.  That is the key.  The passage of time until Drake's passage.  Each minute and hour that much closer, but enough of them in between to push the idea into the distance and focus on the present.  The day shall arrive soon enough, as past musings in this very place have well demonstrated.  Easter Island to be factored in as part of the mix as well, surely, along with the marvels of Patagonia...  It is to dream.

But first, to scheme out the summer, and then Twickenham and Wicklow and Seminyak and Tongariro.  O brave new world, that has such destinations yet to explore within it.
