How Sad a Passage

COUNTESS "This young gentlewoman had a father,--O, that 'had'! how sad a passage 'tis!--whose skill was almost as great as his honesty; had it stretched so far, would have made nature immortal, and death should have play for lack of work." -Act I scene i, All's Well that Ends Well.

Still... Waiting...

It has been awhile.  The RLS journal has been the repository of thoughts over the summer, as you work toward and away (and toward and away) from the long-mulled over idea of a secondary place.  A unique hideaway on the water.  A place to write, and perhaps fade away into the distance for a time.

Tancook the initial spark, and you have seen 18 Reef and 803/880 BTR come and go, the latter a disappointment it must be said.  Others in East Dover as well.  Cross island viewing this past Friday was fun and inspiring and the source for some future ideas, but never a realistic option for the long term, regardless of price.  Even Tancook has the access issues, with concern over the future state of the ferry and such.  But other reasonably priced options are limited.

...

I had stopped there, writing as we are amidst the questioning at 1601.  Where the eyes watered red inexplicably before the break, but now seem to have adjusted.

As has the thinking, to be fair, which continues to evolve and revolve quickly.  On the topic of St. Ann's, and the purchase of a 1906 relic.  ARLHS CAN-1307.  No longer in use, but ready for a boarder to take over in certain seasons.

And yet.  The listed expense seems prohibitive, considering the long-term plan, even if significantly discounted further.  The dream of learning to play the fiddle in that top room looking out over St. Ann's is so gorgeous as to be almost enough to power over and worry about later.  But.  Extra gas and utility and insurance expenses, not to mention the interest over time.  The inability to live there during the winter.  The (potential) lack of storage space and the encroaching neighbours and the likely maintenance and upkeep.

Is 777 a possible compromise?  Or shall you look to relocate to the Rio de Janeiro of North America?  A base in Cape Breton certainly appeals, but any other option seems notable in its lack of being a lighthouse on the Cabot Trail.  Heh.  Hearing adjourned again, so more to ruminate on.  Seems like a good weekend for Cape Breton Bucket List, part II.  Let's try and arrange for three viewings and proceed accordingly?
