How Sad a Passage

COUNTESS "This young gentlewoman had a father,--O, that 'had'! how sad a passage 'tis!--whose skill was almost as great as his honesty; had it stretched so far, would have made nature immortal, and death should have play for lack of work." -Act I scene i, All's Well that Ends Well.

New, Old, Best

What are the memories of this late stage, Second Innings dinner chez O’Hara?  The family grace, the focus on faith versus coincidence, randomness, the long rambling recounting of bicycle journeys, raising children advice (we will figure it out), the toasts, the stew and garlic dressing, and lasagna and mousse, the honeymoon NYC money-toll story (43 years on), the fun of the discussions afterward, the shared sense of what a marriage involves - compromise, early and often.  Obituary musings about pre-writing knowing the situation when what is written is read.

A memorable one, for sure.  As we start this journey of disclosing this news.
