Cruising through the lazy days of summer - the time since the last entry having flown by without an entry for either June 5 or the 34th (although to be fair both were anticipated in the most recent update). Since then the arbitration has concluded with a hopefully compelling written argument, composed partly in the Deer Lake Tim Horton's and in the wee hours at a B&B near St. Anthony's. All as part of the first trip up to Labrador and HVGB in order to dip your hands into the Churchill for the first time and cast the eyes over Muskrat Falls. Good to see the subject of those other efforts over the past 6 months or so close up, and no doubt the MacK decision (when it comes) should make for most interesting reading. The case is stronger than at the launching of the claim, but is that strong enough to outwin the settlement on offer? Wouldn't mind a shot at oral argument to see the master in action a final time, but it is out of all control now...
'Twas an entertaining late June business development trip to Labrador all told, with the added bonus of L'Anse-aux-Meadows and Iceburg Alley and the hilarious chance meeting with Sugaroo, Ms. Campbell, and some locals. How funny was that bus ride to "jail" from the Tuesday night party? A joyous ending of the month with a rained out Canada Day Friday night at the cottage, a proper date night for the Snow White opening (including Tomavino's, Guinness, and Mike Cowie), the return of Nasser and the roll-out of a ridiculous heat wave. Then a fabulous boating week that began with a trip to George's and McNab's on a random Wednesday and included a stunning Thursday night sunset in between the bridges, a Friday sunshine cruise for five other randoms, delayed evening fireworks with Pimm's, topped off with an Inch family outing on Saturday - the young man included. Nice to see him enjoying time in his playpen on the water.
Last Saturday night was an eventful one as well - Nasser's old coin from Hail, and the sense of history that it offers. (Surely he did not lose it on the night!) The stolen Rabelais book on the way to the commons that may or may not have found its way back. The wine and madness and wrestling and red hair wig evening with Thammer and co - some truly outstanding adventures in randomness that deserve not to be forgotten... the chinese fortunes taped to the wall, Mars the cat, and the $20.99 McDonald's breakfast. Oh my.
And now - one month to the date of registration on the birthday (and payment of somewhat exhorbitant fees) - time to get ready for a trip back to that favoured Monday night haunt for the first actual live "encounter". And, amazingly, it actually appears like it could be a fairly promising one. Even if not, just another in the memorable line of Tommy's Uncle martinis, I'm sure, and there can be no arguing with that.
So with some of Biron's thoughts from
Act IV, scene III of LLL in mind, off we go again into the unknown, to see about the future and what may or shall happen next. Record it as thou wilt.
