How Sad a Passage

COUNTESS "This young gentlewoman had a father,--O, that 'had'! how sad a passage 'tis!--whose skill was almost as great as his honesty; had it stretched so far, would have made nature immortal, and death should have play for lack of work." -Act I scene i, All's Well that Ends Well.

The footsteps of Flieger and Grant

3:31PM.  Off now to see about a ferry ride to another island for 2015, and one that may loom large in your future if it can in reality approach the level of beauty and perfection it has attained in the imagination.  The weather gods have been good, with clear forecast through to Sunday.  I wondered if the companion for this mission would hold firm, but even in the midst of angst, it appears that all is prepared.  I leave now to assess the merits and drawbacks of the escape journey from the office, and shall report back tomorrow circa 10AM with an initial report.  Dreams may be dashed, or else the plans shall be rendered ever more firm.

It is a long time since 1792, and the means of transportation for this particular survey certainly much different than would have been employed by the original merchant and gentlemen entrusted with the land.  But it is with them in mind (and the aborted June 5 departure too) that I embark.

Let us see whether the fates have anything special for the future in store.

Belize it

So another trip with another random straggler gets booked.  Will we be able to keep this one on the d/l from the family, I wonder.  Could at least make for a pretty hilarious inside joke over Christmas Eve.  I think the trip is spaced out nicely enough even if she gets on the nerves...  lots of relaxation for the first few days, lots of aimless wandering about Tikal (the place of sounds) that can be done alone, and then some time to kill in San Ignacio at the end of the run.

I like the trip as it hits all the boxes of beach, ruins (remains?), and without too much messing about.  A new country for 2015 and then another for 2016 right off the top, plus ending the year of islands with another masterful one.  Once the idea emerged as an alternative to Chile, Colombia, and Venezuela, there was only ever going to be one outcome.  To get to use the United credit to bring the price down to a reasonable level was a sweet bonus, and a reminder of who you are running off to avoid.

Before then, if the weather holds through Tropical Cyclone Henri, there could be an overnight on the boat this weekend, followed by the Tancook exploration in one exactly one week's time.  My oh my how will that one play out, through health challenges and the like.  Seems a natural end of a foolish little tryst, but one worth reporting on the tape when it rolls around next June.  It is another nicely held secret and it is to laugh.  It has taught some things, I suppose, and if nothing else has been entertaining.

Shame about the lack of contact, the "private conversation" following the glorious second viewing of Midsummer Night's Dream perhaps inevitable but still frustrating.  I do wonder what 2016 might hold on that front, as it is not impossible.  Four months is probably a decent amount of time in the end.  Turns out Neptune's Yellow Sands will be walked in Belize, a perfect place for new resolutions for a new year.  Now to wait it out, through Oktoberfest and potentially one more companion ride before the annual Xmas festivities.  Lots to be excited about for these last few months.  Including the unlikely Cabot golf game at month's end.  How will that play out?  Time to start hitting some balls soon!
