How Sad a Passage

COUNTESS "This young gentlewoman had a father,--O, that 'had'! how sad a passage 'tis!--whose skill was almost as great as his honesty; had it stretched so far, would have made nature immortal, and death should have play for lack of work." -Act I scene i, All's Well that Ends Well.

The Collision of Worlds

Really should have finished this Boo-Too Tariff argument before the trip home, if only to relax and exert a bit more influence over certain enveloping situations... Value Village and other $6.99 misadventures, etc. and so forth.  Sometimes the details remain in future lookbacks, and sometimes they fade away beyond recognition.  I wonder about this one, the testing of patience to 70%, all the cliches associated in meeting in-laws, letting go, mosquitos, the raiding of the drawer for assistance with next week's endeavour...  all stress and distractions in keeping you from focusing on the opus maximus proper.  The opposite of the lightness of being.  Pretty fundamental, MacDougall called it, and so it is in paying the bills, and so it shall be when you bring it all together.

Not sure it can't get finished tonight if you just apply yourself.  These kinds of miracles have been pulled out before, and it would be nice to leave for a Canada Day drive free and clear.  You have it in you, and remember NTD re: Undertaking responses remain a trusted friend crutch.  Blast it off, then await the inevitable revisions to come.  Yes, yes.  I am well rested and coffee and cheetos can see you through.  Time to go check on the latest dynamics.  Oh for the dramas to resolve themselves.  Oh for the lifting of weights.

Spotting

Or so the hope at present.  Has it been only two weeks of constant googling, while the insect marks along the waist so gradually subside, and other symptoms are analyzed with the fervour of a forensic detective?

The waiting period has served to prove the surprising shift in future desires all the more.  Trust is needed to ensure it will all come out in the end, whether now or later.  Remember these thoughts, though, as you waffle on distractedly about surplus credits and carbon compliance, and keep putting off the attempt to craft a convincing argument for top-up rates in favour of researching prior cycles and tracking the nuances associated with potential dates of ov and im.

There will be disappointment and uncertainty if success is not achieved on the opening effort... and, like that, so it has now proved.  Not to be on this full Strawberry moon, as the Pisces and Aries look set to battle it out.  Secret tests taken in hopes of a surprise, but alas.  Timing actually not so bad as it means a more relaxed welcome to the parents, followed by some stress-free holidaying post-Canada Day for Round #2?

Let us see how the odds turn out.

Egdod at Finbar

The joy of an immersive SF epic, well told and incredible in hitting upon the same conscious/heaven/souls points of recent discussion.  M casting prayers to purify the Mavis extensions, as the fog of Lawrencetown slowly lifts on the cliffs amid extraordinarily fresh air.  Books on Luck and Magic while you wait, and now the return to Finbar’s.  Not the same location as the Valentine’s table of old, but feels it, especially with the nostalgic photos throughout.

Relaxing Sunday.  What’s the Scoop next, then Elizabeth’s tonight, as you ready for the coming month of more significant family encounters.  All as you draw signs that might be omens from the questioning of early symptoms and surrounding Father’s Day celebrations….

Virtuality

Day 2.  Arsenal tie and sweatpants from the home office.  The last swan song of the Chair?  Likely.  Classic questioning once again, recounting his sitting outside in the sun last night, pondering a common sense lens to the key import pricing issue.  A lot of energy and time and fees to get to this point.  It's a strange way to make a living, as it has been over the past 15 years since the call to the bar.  But as a flexible and largely stress-less one that has provided the means to live the life you like, hard to beat.

First of our Panels set to go up after lunch.  Good record so far, and in any case there will be gains as a result of the Application.  Or so we hope.  I wonder.

The Captain Worthing

A simple obituary request from a son - go walk amongst the ancient Hemlocks within the city my Dad helped protect.  So here I am, enjoying the rain, mosquitos, and dull echoes off the highway.  Enjoy well, no one knows tomorrow.  A long life, well lived through the wide world, drunk up until the bitter sweet end.

(The height of some of these beauties.)

Nice escape for a moment, as Mirriam visits the Anointed Hands appointment with a bag of goodies from Walmart, full of uses I could not explain.  The bubble soon opening, and the first test of a long-awaited dream to come smack in the middle of that important first visit.  Yet all in order and feels just so.

To that last, could only laugh at the family met on entry, the young guy introducing himself (“first name Owen, second name Kyle” - ok, haha), but the younger sister and mother trailing with the line to remember.  “He may be somebody’s daddy, but not yours.”

May be.  Maybe.  Ha.

The Plan

What continuing professional development will I undertake in the forthcoming twelve months, relevant to my professional needs and intended to preserve and enhance my legal knowledge and skills?  State it here and commit anew, that I shall participate in such McInnes Cooper in-house sessions and such other CBA and energy industry-specific seminars as and when they become available from time to time, in sufficient hours to exceed the minimum targets of the Regulations. All lessons to be documented and the wisdom retained.  So help me, Denning.

And on the non-professional front?  Last year saw an engagement, wedding, honeymoon, and approved TRV for joint in-person birthday celebrations.  This year requires family reunification, a return to London, and that other thing.  Things unfolding as they should when you find yourself experiencing familiar sensations, hoping/wanting that which you never thought you would.  Desperate for it, in fact, during this first two week wait.  Analogies being drawn from various sources, the process of fixing the toilet fill valve after ignoring the whistling (remember?) and so on...

Wonderful time at the cottage - "meeting" Grandparents who were hopefully looking on during a beautiful introduction to the lake.  Next up in the long line of firsts is the trip to Moncton.  Bubble is starting to form, so next Friday night could be the one for the in-laws.  As the checkmarks continue to hit those boxes.

“Hindsight, Insight, Foresight”

Firm AGM from the basement of Parklane and a still-closed movie theatre, as your wife browses the shops upstairs. Just two nights since a beautiful birthday opposite Cape Split, warming the asses by the campfire, listening to the orgasmic crashing of waves on the shore immediately below.

The last of the Karoo tape recordings for awhile had a symposium send off: Lessons of patience, not to compromise on what is key, always be learning, confidence on the path taken as opposed to what might have been, and above all Nick’s blunt advice to start a family.

Tied to that, shall answers to Life, the Universe, and Everything be incoming?  Maybe just.  Writing now needs to begin with an eye to returning to complete the MFA and publish the memoir to date.  Summer of Atlantic travel while we wait for the second dose and unfolding clarity across a variety of fronts.  According to the Pharoah (Sanders), the Creator has a master plan… keeping you on your toes, but no complaints since the pandemic dropped.

As William Hung would and did say, “no regrets at all.”

Memories of Harvey

Let me start this now and end it later, after sufficient wind and wine and philosophizing afloat on the harbour aboard the old lady.

There are certain days that require a taking stock, assessments of the past and/or future, made quaint yet consequential by the inevitable retesting of assumptions.  The consistency of attitude and themes always remains.

UPDATE #1 - (Before)  oh this breeze, this view, this life.  New chapters, a form of settlement that came honestly, freely chosen, with the right lover.  Pure and instinctive and uplifting, toughened and eager for adventures to come.  Next week an eventful one, the last of the tapes, I know feel sure.  The start of something else?  Time, will show..  For now, soak in the relaxation and remember the origins of this day.

UPDATE #2 - (6th)  7 hrs of sleep, after the SkipTheDishes theft, absolute timing for a theft, and dream finish after Wallbangers render you almost comatose.  The wind was a revelation, past H11 and back afloat, tilting at Slocum windows on a micro dose with bubbly and the HFX pickup plan.  Alone on the harbour, as good nights always seem to be.  Soft, slight, magic, pure.  Extra pickles, haha. The world has a way of chipping in with its surprises.  What shall next year hold?  Wait and see, my love.
